Children's faces are covered with sun stickers.I didn’t know exactly what to expect walking into the Tyrone-Snyder Public Library on May 14th. It was my first live reading of The Hallway of Doorknobs and about 20 kids were waiting on that rainbow carpet.

During the reading we made a grumpy face like Cactus. We stomped like Blazer. We spun like Disco and more than one kid noticed the “cowboy boots.” I didn’t plan for that to be a moment, but it was.

The kids loved guessing what each part left behind in the hallway. They were calling out answers before I even finished the page. It was one of those moments where you just let it happen.

Justina Fuller, Youth Services Specialist at Tyrone-Snyder Public Library, said it well: “The book has a good message. It’s good to get the word out early. Especially the part that talks about who you can talk to your feelings about.”

She’s right. It’s never too early.

  1. I’m inspired by your impromptu playful interactions with the children. Learning is always better when it is fun. You are off to a wonderful start.
