2026 Everyday Lives Virtual Conference
Virtual reading at The Everyday Lives Virtual Conference for (ODP) and the Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (OMHSAS)
Lynn joins fellow LCSW Ellen A. Black to present how The Hallway of Doorknobs can be adapted for individuals with intellectual disabilities using concrete, sensory metaphors to make abstract emotions accessible. Virtual event reaching 400+ Pennsylvania professionals.
Ellen A. Black, LCSW and Lynn Haller, LCSW will present a 90-minute session exploring how Polyvagal Theory informs trauma-informed behavior support in dual diagnosis and intellectual disability settings. The presentation includes an overview of how nervous system states shape behavior, a case study illustrating polyvagal-informed support in practice, and a live reading from The Hallway of Doorknobs: A Journey to the Feelings Inside. The book brings polyvagal states to life through concrete, sensory-based storytelling. Each character in the book maps to a nervous system state, making abstract concepts tangible and accessible for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Participants will learn regulation-focused strategies that promote safety, connection, and independence, and can sign up to receive a free PDF adaptation guide for using The Hallway of Doorknobs with individuals with intellectual disabilities.
